This Year's Model Updates:

The Monte Carlo receives significant revisions for 2006. On the outside, Chevrolet has altered the car's styling with new front-end styling and taillights. Inside, the Monte Carlo benefits from a redesigned instrument panel, improved audio systems, more comfortable seats and standard front side airbags. Mechanical changes include a stronger body structure, retuned suspension geometry for enhanced stability and improved braking systems. There are also new engines for the Chevy car: a base 3.5-liter V6, an upgraded 3.9-liter V6 and a new 5.3-liter V8 for the SS trim, which replaces last year's supercharged V6. Finally, the lineup of trim levels has been shuffled slightly to accommodate a new luxury-oriented LTZ trim.

Pros:
  • Spacious interior, low sticker price, powerful engine choices.
Cons:
  • Vague steering detracts from handling, off-the-line torque steer in the SS.

  • Pretty car..too many transmission problems - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

The car actually belongs to my mother, but due to eye problems, I am the driver. My mother purchased the car in Nov. of 2007. Since the purchase, weve had a new transmission installed and had to have it checked twice after that. Now there is a problem with the shifting the car from Park to Drive, etc. The shift has become stiff and it takes two hands to get it to move. Love the car, hate the problems weve had.

Lots of room and space and fun to drive. Great fuel ecconomy for a car this size. The quality is great too. The price is lower than most cars in its class.

  • Great Car for the Money - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

After a year and a half of driving this car, I have mostly good things to say about this car. GM seems to have improved their build quality over the past few years of Monte Carlos. I have had no mechanical problems whatsoever. I love the strong pulling V6, decent gas mileage, and the 8 speaker audio system.

Since Ive had my Monte I have been going on a lot of road trips and have put a lot of miles on it. I have driven it across various states, into Canada, through snowy mountain passes, and this car has always gotten me from A to B flawlessly! I realized that I like front wheel drive when I was driving on snowy roads (you dont fishtail or lose control as easy as rear wheel) This is a good road tripping car. Though I did wake up one morning, started the car, and realized that some how the power steering pump went out overnight, being under warranty, the dealer took care of it quick. Other then that I believe this car is dependable, I have definitely put it through the test and it passed.

  • Fun to Drive.. Buy it! - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

This is the third Monte I have owned. I still have my 2004 Monte SS. This 2006 is head and shoulders above the previous years of Montes. It is quiet, smooth riding and responsive. It appears to have much more quality than the previous models. It turns a lot of heads. The styling reflects NASCAR inspiration and excitement.

  • Quality product? - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

My 2006 Monte has had nothing but problems from day one. Had to replace steering twice and then last month got a recall notice for the same. The dealer has been looking for the problem with the computer since I bought it. What is with that? I love Chevy vehicles but this one is disappointing to say the least.

  • Great Drive - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Since I purchased my Monte Carlo, Ive had no problems with it. The gas mileage isnt bad for a V-8. The car is comfortable to drive. Very roomy for taller people. The way the back seat opens into the trunk is very useful for carrying things. With no molding on the exterior sides, I have to be careful where I park. Overall this is the first car Ive had in a long time I plan to keep beyond two years.

  • NASCAR Inspired Monte - 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

This is a fun car to drive with great power for a 4.9l. The body and fuel economy is outstanding for a 3400 pound car. Show me a car with that weight getting that kind of fuel economy with the price under 24k considering all the other models in its class. I will say I have the upgraded stereo and it stinks bad! Sound like the stereo is out of phase. Other than that I think it is a great car well worth a serious look at.
